Affirmations For Change

Author/Speaker Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup series) has said, "To affirm something is simply to declare that it is true. So, creating and using affirmations should be a breeze, right?
Actually, the true art of the affirmation is both subtle and profound!
Despite the popularity of this technique, some people use affirmations that are bland and perhaps even self-defeating.

When creating your affirmation, remember that even minor variations in wording can make a huge difference in the results you get. Since your words literally have the power to create your circumstances, invest a few minutes now to take your affirmation skills to a higher level."

You are what you think! (The scriptures tell us that "As a man thinketh, so is he.) Your life stems from your thoughts. This is the thesis affirmations are grounded on.

The word affirmation comes from the Latin “affirmare”, at that time meaning “to make steady, strengthen.”. Positive affirmations are empowering statements that you repeat in order to amplify your confidence and boost your motivation to achieve your goals. These statements help you solidify and visualize your desired way of being or dealing with things in your life. Positive affirmations that you repeat with authority can accelerate the positive life changes you strive for, and improve your overall well-being. However, to have the desired impact for change, affirmations need to be formed in a POSITIVE statement and as if that is the present reality!

This is where you will apply William Shakespear's line from Hamlet, "Assume a virtue, if you have it not."

Let take a moment to compare the strength of how you word your affirmations...

I will eliminate my debt load
or
I live totally within my means!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want to quit smoking!
or
I breath freely in a healthy environment!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I need to lose 50 pounds
or
I eat healthy and exercise regularly

Consider your wording carefully...even words like "eliminate", "debt", "quitting" or "losing" are negative, weak phrases! I have attached a list of Positive Feeling words for affirmations, from Canfield's blog:
